How do you recertify as an NREMT Paramedic?

National Registry Paramedics recertify every two years under the 2025 NCCP model with 60 hours of continuing education, split 30 National, 15 Local or State and 15 Individual. The education deadline is March 31, the application window runs October 1 to March 31, and the recertification fee is $32 through September 30, 2026, then $37. You can also recertify by exam, with one attempt during the window.

Rules that apply at every level

Online (distributive) education has had no cap at any level since 2022.
Recertify by exam: one attempt at the cognitive exam during the window. Passing recertifies you in Inactive status; AEMTs and Paramedics then need medical-director sign-off to return to Active. Failing the exam does not stop you recertifying by continuing education.
Active status for Paramedic and AEMT requires EMS-agency affiliation plus skills verification by a training officer and a licensed physician medical director every cycle. EMR and EMT Active status requires training-officer skills verification only.
Education that does not count: duplicate courses, clinical rotations, instructor courses, management or leadership courses, performance of duty, preceptor hours, serving as a skills examiner, and volunteer time with agencies.
Accepted education: State-EMS-Office-approved and CAPCE-accredited courses, EMS education program credit, and U.S. accredited academic credit. All of it must relate directly to EMS patient care.
Reinstatement: if all education was finished by the deadline but the application was not submitted, you can reinstate until April 30 (EMT, AEMT, Paramedic) or October 31 (EMR) for a $50 fee plus the recertification fee. Keep CE documentation for 36 months; audits are random.
Your new expiration date is two years after the current one once the application is processed and approved.
