How do you renew an EMS certification in Alaska?
Alaska certifies EMT-I, EMT-II, EMT-III, AEMT and paramedic on a two-year cycle under 7 AAC 26.100. The relicensure hours are 40 for EMT-I, 50 for EMT-II, EMT-III and AEMT, and 60 for paramedic. Pediatric content must be 10% of the National component, which works out to 2 hours for EMT-I, 2.5 for EMT-II, EMT-III and AEMT, and 3 for paramedic. Since April 1, 2025 every clinician also completes the one-time 4-hour National TIM Responder course.

What else Alaska requires
- One-time 4-hour National Traffic Incident Management Responder course, mandatory for initial licensure and relicensure from April 1, 2025.
- AEMT requires a state transition course.
- The earlier vendor claim of 2 pediatric hours at every level is wrong; the requirement scales with the National component.
